Carolina Gonzalez of NeoVamp, who always has wonderfully unique solutions for displaying jewelry, shares her creative ear climber / ear cuff display:

Carolina Gonzalez of NeoVamp Jewelry, who always has wonderfully unique solutions for displaying jewelry, shares her creative ear climber / ear cuff display. She says:

"I don't have pierced ears and I don't like clip earrings -they fall if the clips are soft and they hurt my ears if they are hard.

Through the years I've had a few ear climbers but they're not easy to find here! [Carolina lives on the Canary Islands.]

They seem to have run out of fashion and now I only find them on gothic jewelry online shops and the like; so, I decided to make some.

I love unusual and ethnic jewelry and, being into the tattoo world, you get to see a lot of it.

When you make about 20 pairs of earrings a week, it's wonderful to have a new shape to play with!

When I had done four or five sketching prototypes and was happy with the result (that includes wearing the piece along one day to see if it is sturdy enough), I started thinking about putting some on my online shop… and then I realized I had no idea how I was going to make good pics of them.

When I placed them on my light box, they looked like everything – except ear climbers.

Taking pics of them on my own ear was definitely not a choice! There is nothing wrong with my ear (ha ha) but it would really take too much time and tries.

Again, tattoo art saved the day.

I remembered that on my tattoo supplies catalogues there were piercing anatomic displays.

In case you didn't know, piercings may have many different shapes and lengths depending on the part of the body where they are going to be placed so silicone piercing displays are just that, body parts.

Lips, eyebrows, noses, etc. And of course, ears.

I looked for the catalogues and hand sculpted a real life size ear of air-dry clay.

After about 25 minutes of drying I inserted a bamboo stick (mini-note for beginner sculptors: let the clay dry a little before making any holes to the piece; they will be more even).

After it dried I sanded it and adjusted any small cracks (very superficial cracks are very common in air-dry clay pieces as it really shrink when they dry) and then painted it with acrylics and varnished it.

As you can see in the pics, I also added a hole in the lobe to show matching earrings if there were any.

My first idea was to leave it like that to be able to punch the bamboo stick on a vase filled with sand or something like that.

But then I remembered I had this gorgeous lamp stand I had painted and I thought it would be perfect for the style of my whole display, which is very gypsy and colourful.

I just glued the bamboo stick – et voilà ! An ear climber display!"

Carolina, thank you so much for sharing another of your wonderful jewelry display ideas!

I've used all kinds of earring displays over the years, but here is the one that has made the most sales and profits for me, by far:

I've used all kinds of [tag]earring displays[/tag] over the years, but here is the one that has made the most sales and profits for me, by far:

earring display trunk,
closed and ready for transport (above)

earring display trunk,
open and ready for business

inside the earring trunk

That's it???

Just a trunkful of earrings for people to rummage through?

You bet!

My winning earring display is a rattan trunk I bought at an outlet store years ago, filled with simple one- or two-bead gemstone earrings on sterling silver earwires, mounted on my [tag]custom earring cards[/tag] and enclosed safely in mini ziplock bags.

The white earring cards show up well against the dark brown of the trunk, and the sign inside the trunk's lid entices people with volume discounts:

"Gemstone Bead
Handcrafted Earrings
Special Today!
$16 for 1 pair
$14 each for 3 pair
$12 each for 5 pair"

People stand elbow-to-elbow, sifting through the earring packets in the trunk, eagerly rummaging for 3 or 5 pairs of earrings to buy at a discount.

In addition to being hugely successful, this earring display is also a fantastically easy way to store and transport your jewelry!

The mini-ziplock baggies help prevent tarnish and protect the earrings during rummaging.

And since the earrings cost me an average of $1.50 including the [tag]gift pouch[/tag] I put them in when they sell, this is a nicely profitable part of my jewelry booth.

An [tag]unusual earring display[/tag] can be a great way to catch shoppers' attention and draw them into your booth for a closer look at you jewelry.

For example, this graceful pair of statues make a lovely artistic [tag]earring hanger[/tag].

You may want to seek out one really unusual but attractive display element you can include in your booth.

Remember that when it comes to unusual jewelry displays, less is more – in other words, a single unusual display makes a far more dramatic and memorable impression than a whole tableful of them.

This hanging earring display is a good one for outdoor shows, where even a slight breeze can knock over standing jewelry displays and send earring cards flying away.

To make this hanging [tag]earring display[/tag], you could use strips of felt or fleece fabric (neither of which require hemming) or even solid-colored neckties to hang your earrings on.

Then simply wrap the top end of each earring strip around the top pole of your [tag]art show tent[/tag], and fasten with no-sew Velcro tabs.

These hanging earring displays will surely catch the eye of shoppers wandering through the show.

They also put your jewelry right at customers' eye level while freeing up some of your table space for displaying more of your work.

You could easily store these fabric strips already loaded with earrings for an [tag]outdoor display[/tag] that's super fast to set up and take down.

Earrings can be hung on or off their earring cards this way.

You can leave your branch its natural color, or spray paint it white, black, or another color to contrast with your jewelry.

When using tree branches as [tag]jewelry displays[/tag], other natural elements in your booth (such as rocks, crystals, and shells) make beautiful accents.

[tag]Hanging earrings[/tag] on a branch is also a good way to photograph them.
