What do you do when you notice dust and lint on your jewelry displays partway through a show? Here's my quick and easy solution.

My jewelry displays always start out spotlessly clean.

But during every show I've ever done, my displays accumulate lint, dust, people's food crumbs, tiny hairs, and (at outdoor shows) pollution particles.

Unfortunately, jewelry displays that have visible debris on them tend to make the jewelry look less valuable – and less desirable.

So in my box of "show survival supplies" I carry two things that save the day:

A lint roller, and a roll of scotch tape.

The lint roller makes quick work of removing junk from flat jewelry display surfaces, such as tray pads, table cloths, necklace busts, risers, etc.

And for those tricky small surfaces – such as the compartments in my tray liners – a piece of scotch tape dabbed up and down a few times quickly removes any mess.

Don't worry about customers seeing you cleaning your displays during the show. It makes a good impression if you're seen keeping things immaculate.

See how Shari Bonnin uses textured paper as part of her jewelry display, where she can change it to suit her needs.

Shari Bonnin of Bonnin Designs shares this artistic jewelry display tip:

"By using textured paper as part of a jewelry display, you can change it to suit your needs at the time.

Photos courtesy of Shari Bonnin

In addition to regular display fixtures, I use silver and gold paper to lay necklaces and bracelets on instead of a white tablecloth.

These are easy jewelry displays that are lightweight and easy to transport from show to show.

I've also seen putting colored paper onto various shapes of foam core board to add depth.

You can stack them in twos and threes."

At some shows – particularly [tag]indoor shows[/tag] or gallery events – you may wind up with an ultrasmall [tag]booth space[/tag]. Here's one way to display the maximum amount of jewelry in a tiny footprint of space.

When you can't go horizontal – go vertical! Use an attractive, creative approach to maximizing the space you do have.

In a future post here I'll detail how to make a cheap [tag]jewelry display board[/tag] like the one pictured here.

In the meantime, if you don't have enough space to spread your display outward – go upward instead, with racks, [tag]display boards[/tag], etc.!

Overcrowded Jewelry Table = Disappearing Customers

While it's good to have a nice selection of jewelry for your customers to see, you DON'T want to hit them with this…!

An [tag]overcrowded display[/tag] scares people away. There's too much to look at – it's visual overload!

This jeweler would probably do better to:

Get a double [tag]booth space[/tag] and use more tables next time, or

Only put out half of his inventory, and keep the rest back for restocking as things sell.

An organized [tag]jewelry table[/tag] with visual "breathing room" is one of the most effective ways to encourage browsing.

And browsing leads to sales!
